Elinor White used resources available through Erickson Realty and Moving Services to downsize, sell her house, and move into her new apartment home at Highland Springs, the Erickson Living community in North Dallas.

Elinor White knew she was ready for a change, but the thought of downsizing and selling her home of 40 years seemed overwhelming.

“My husband passed away in 2003, so I’d been alone in the house for a long time,” says Elinor, who lived in Plano, Tex. “I wanted something different, but there was 40 years of accumulation in the house. I just didn’t see how a move was possible.”

In 2006, Elinor joined the priority list at Highland Springs, the Erickson Living community in North Dallas. As a priority list member, Elinor was among the first to learn of new construction at the community.

“Last year, I attended an event for priority list members and saw a new apartment that I loved,” says Elinor. “It felt like home as soon as I walked in.”

Network of resources

Elinor’s choice—a two-bedroom, two-bath, Mulberry-style apartment with an open layout—prompted her to move forward. She scheduled a home visit with Highland Springs’ Personal Moving Consultant Cindy Gay, who offers complimentary coordination of moving resources, including referrals to trusted real estate agents and senior move managers.

Gay’s services are part of the Erickson Realty and Moving Services program, which provides assistance with every aspect of a move, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and getting settled in a new apartment.

“I used everyone Cindy recommended,” says Elinor. “They were all so professional and made the move go smoothly.”

‘Everything fell into place’

On the before move-in, the senior move management company packed up Elinor’s Plano home. The next day, they moved her belongings into her new apartment at Highland Springs.

“I had no idea my furniture would fit so well in the new space,” says Elinor. “The moving company was amazing. By the end of the day, everything was unpacked and ready to be lived in. I was comfortable right from the start.”

Once settled at Highland Springs, Elinor listed her home with Jane Clark, a real estate agent recommended by Gay.

“My house was under contract within days.” says Elinor. “Everything fell into place.”

Now with the move behind her, Elinor says she feels a sense of relief.

“It’s like I’m living on a cruise ship,” she says. “I haven’t looked back.”
