One of the most anticipated events at Linden Ponds is the Annual Garden Promenade. The event provides an opportunity for prospective residents and other visitors to tour the lush and colorful gardens maintained by green-thumbed community members.

While they walk through the gardens under the late spring sunshine, guests are treated to refreshments and a live musical performance led by community member Lo Steele. All female guests receive an oversized hat bedazzled with colorful flowers. Later, everyone convenes inside for a luncheon.

Prepping for the event

In April and May, many residents were busy getting their gardens in tip-top shape for the Garden Promenade.

Garden club coleader Judy Suket says Linden Ponds has 123, 9- by 9-foot gardens on campus. Residents grow everything from tomatoes, squash, and beans to raspberries, fragrant herbs, and bright flowers.

Judy says many community members brought garden tools with them from their former houses and have donated them for communal use by the garden club.

One of the perks of tending a garden at Linden Ponds is the camaraderie with other people who share the same interest.

“A lot of people spend the day down there in the summer,” Judy says. “They will bring their lunch with them, and there’s an area where they can sit in the sun and read. It is very nice.”

Members of the garden club will be on hand at this year’s Garden Promenade to answer questions from future residents who hope to have a garden at Linden Ponds.

“It is really, truly a wonderful day,” Judy says of the annual event. “People really enjoy it.”

The 2018 Garden Promenade will take place on Thursday, June 14, at 11 a.m.
