Ann’s Choice resident Elaine Craft is one of the community’s social media ambassadors. Some of the photos she takes with her smartphone are featured on the Ann’s Choice Facebook page.

Elaine and Herb Craft moved to Ann’s Choice on a hot, humid day eight years ago. As they and their movers coped with the increasing heat, the Crafts’ new hallway neighbors appeared with tall glasses of iced tea for everyone.

Such thoughtfulness, a hallmark of life at Erickson Living’s retirement community in Bucks County, Pa., made the Crafts feel truly welcomed.

Elaine has always remembered that kindness and she’s been extending the same friendliness to Ann’s Choice newcomers ever since.

As campus ambassadors, she and Herb welcome visitors to the community’s sales events, answering questions and sharing their personal experiences of what it’s like to live at Ann’s Choice.

“Last fall, we expanded our ambassadorships,” says Elaine. They began volunteering as dinner hosts for Ann’s Choice’s priority list members who have the option to enjoy a complimentary overnight stay through the Ann’s Choice Experience program.

Taking it online

Now Elaine has expanded her ambassadorship again. She’s one of four social media ambassadors for Ann’s Choice’s Facebook page.

Her photo of the campus’ iconic 100-plus-year-old Chinese chestnut trees was featured on the page this April, capturing the circle of trees all blossoming in pink profusion. Those spring blossoms have faded now, but the rest of the 103-acre grounds are abloom in summer colors.

“The Facebook page is a fantastic way to showcase campus beauty, our exciting events, and stories about our outstanding residents and staff,” says Erickson Living Regional Communications Manager Petra Shaw.

Those following the Ann’s Choice Facebook page automatically receive its latest posts in their newsfeed. The posts routinely earn many likes, shares, and comments from current and prospective residents, family members and staff, and local community members as well.

All Erickson Living communities have social media ambassador volunteers who interact with one another via a private ambassadors Facebook group.

“It’s not a face-to-face connection, but it’s Facebook, so it almost is,” Elaine says. “There’s so much going on at other communities. This keeps me up to date and gives me ideas.”

‘A great way to live’

Living at Ann’s Choice provides Elaine with real face-to-face connections every single day. They confirm to her that moving there was the right decision.

The Crafts’ favorite activity is visiting with neighbors or making new friends over dinner at a campus restaurant.

They also treasure Ann’s Choice’s location in Bucks County. The area boasts numerous art galleries, shopping destinations, historical sites, and quaint little towns.

“You can make of your life here what you want,” Elaine says. “There’s no pressure to do anything, but lots of opportunities to open your mind to something new.”

But mainly, “It’s the people contact, knowing that anytime you open your door you’ll run into someone and have a conversation,” she adds. “That’s a great way to live.”
