Majella Sheehan knew a move to Brooksby Village was on the horizon, but she couldn’t have anticipated it happening so quickly.

“I’ve had Brooksby on my mind since I was 55,” says Majella, a Spanish teacher at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, Mass. “The indoor swimming pool is what first sold me on the community. I joined Brooksby’s priority list to keep in touch until I turned 62, the age at which I could move in.”

One of Majella’s former students, Jane Kiegel, is a sales counselor at Brooksby.

“I met with Jane the week after I turned 62, and we looked at apartments,” says Majella. “I saw a one-bedroom Brighton floor plan with a patio and knew it was the one.”

Majella initially planned to move over the summer vacation, when school wasn’t in session and she had time to downsize.

“It all happened very quickly,” says Majella. “I moved one month after I reserved the apartment. We timed it to coincide with the April school vacation.”

Resources make the difference

Majella’s move was simplified by resources offered through Brooksby, an Erickson Living community.

Erickson Realty and Moving Services is a nationwide program offered at all Erickson Living communities to help future residents through every phase of their move. A personal moving consultant offers complimentary coordination of moving resources, including referrals to trusted real estate agents, senior move managers, and moving companies.

Laurie Phillips is the personal moving consultant at Brooksby Village. She visited Majella in her Peabody house after Majella reserved her apartment.

“Laurie gave me an idea of the furniture pieces that would best fit in my new apartment,” says Majella. “She also gave me the name of a fantastic real estate agent and senior move management company.”

Majella says the move from her family home of 62 years would have been much more difficult if she didn’t have a team supporting her throughout the process.

“I moved in April and listed my house after I was settled at Brooksby,” says Majella. “It went on the market on a Friday. By Monday I had six offers, some over asking price. The Brooksby team and their recommended vendors worked together to ensure everything went like clockwork.”
