Kathy and Tom Wozniak say moving to an Erickson Living community in Novi, Mich., wasn’t stressful because they had access to a team of experts through Erickson Realty and Moving Services.

Tom and Kathy Wozniak lived in Livonia, Mich., for almost 40 years. But earlier this year, they decided to trade house repairs for maintenance-free living at Fox Run, an Erickson Living community in Novi, Mich.

“My anxiety is greatly reduced—I don’t have all that pressure I had before,” Tom says. “We had an older house, and there was always something going wrong.”

Moving to a new home after so many years is a big process. But the Wozniaks didn’t have to go it alone.

Unique program

As members of Fox Run’s priority list, they had access to Erickson Realty and Moving Services, a special program for people moving to an Erickson Living community that offers complimentary coordination of all realty and moving needs, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and selection of a real estate professional. Tom and Kathy worked directly with Fox Run Personal Moving Consultant Kristine Kluge, who connected them with an experienced real estate agent and other moving professionals.

Tom says he had a number in mind when he thought about selling the house. But the knowledgeable real estate agent he and Kathy selected recommended listing it for about $65,000 more.

“We had 14 showings the first day, and our house sold for above the asking price,” Tom says.

At Fox Run, the Wozniaks chose an apartment home with two bedrooms and one bathroom. Their ground-level home has a patio where they often eat breakfast.

“We liked this apartment because of the big main room that will allow us to have 16 people over for Christmas dinner,” Tom says.

Of course, moving out of a large family home into a smaller dwelling requires some downsizing. But Tom says working with Kluge made that process manageable.

“She had the floor plan and magnetic pieces of furniture, and we placed them in each room to see what fit,” Tom says. “She spent a couple of hours with us and gave us suggestions on what to do with the stuff we didn’t want to keep.”

Just a few weeks after moving to Fox Run, Tom and Kathy were already settled in. They already knew several residents, which made the transition easier. Plus, Tom says they’re enjoying the comfort of their new home.

“The rooms are big enough to fit everything we needed in each room,” he says. “It felt homey the first night.”
