For Eva Madura, proximity to the fitness center at Brooksby Village is great motivation to exercise regularly.

"I walk by the fitness center on my way to and from my apartment," says Eva. "It's a daily reminder to work out."

The fitness center at Brooksby, an Erickson Living community in Peabody, Mass., is equipped with a variety of machines to encourage strength training and aerobic exercise, with fitness staff on hand to offer instruction on the correct usage of the machines. An indoor, climate-controlled swimming pool, adjacent to the fitness center, allows residents to swim at their leisure or enjoy one of the regularly scheduled aquatics classes.

"I attend the water walking class twice a week," says Eva, who moved to Brooksby from Clarksville, Va., almost two years ago to be closer to her daughter who lives in Massachusetts. "I don't know that I'd be as active as I am if I didn't have all these options right here on campus."

Something for everyone

Options are key when it comes to Brooksby's fitness offerings, according to Wellness Manager Rokia Paone.

"Our goal is to personalize exercise programs to meet individual needs and preferences," says Paone, a former competitive gymnast. "We want to offer fun and invigorating workouts while keeping up with the best training techniques and exercise guidelines."

Brooksby's fitness team currently offers 35 classes a week, both on land and in the water.

"Our most popular class is called 'Get Up and Get Fit,'" says Paone. "It's offered three times a week. We've also had great participation in two of our newer classes, 'Smooth Moves' and 'Drum Fit.'"

Good for mind and body

Physical fitness has been a lifelong passion for fellow Brooksby community member René Cormier. He was the captain of his high school football and basketball teams, played tennis, completed 10K races through his working years, and continues to prioritize daily workouts.

"When I saw the fitness center at Brooksby, it was a definite selling point," says René, who takes two group exercise classes a week and uses the machines in the fitness center daily. He also swims laps on the weekends.

"There's no excuse not to work out," he says. "It keeps the mind and body healthy."
