Before he moved to Brooksby Village, Eli Bortman’s closest brush with a professional photographer was having his picture taken for the faculty directory at Babson College.

Eli, a retired professor of business law, saw a bump in his modeling career when he and his wife Carol were approached by Brooksby’s sales team to see if they would be interested in stepping in front of the camera for new marketing materials advertising the Peabody, Mass., community where they live.

“Our residents are the best representatives of the Brooksby Village lifestyle,” says Sales Director Sue Davis. “It makes sense to feature them in our brochures and on our website.”

The most recent photo shoot at Brooksby took place over two days and included pictures of residents on the bridge, walking paths, and gazebo near the community’s McIntosh Clubhouse, the outdoor patio in the courtyard of the Kingsbury Clubhouse, the Cider House Pub, the yoga studio, and model apartment homes.

Leave it to the professionals

“It’s a coordinated effort,” says Stephanie Carr, manager of photography production for Erickson Living. “We bring in a professional photographer and assistants, a wardrobe consultant, a hair and makeup artist, and a prop stylist and assistant. Our residents enjoy the experience and like all the pampering and attention.”

For Eli and Carol, the photo shoot proved to be a way to connect with others, both old friends and new acquaintances.

“Friends from Winchester and Arlington call us when they see brochures from Brooksby with our picture,” says Eli. “We also serve as ambassadors for the community and have met prospective community members at sales luncheons who recognize us from the photos. Of all the photos taken during the photo shoot, our favorite is the one of us with our dog Clyde.”
