Since 2012, Virginia Living magazine has awarded Virginia’s “bests” from across five regions in the state: Northern, Eastern, Central, Southwestern, and the Shenandoah Valley. With nearly 10,000 readers responding, Greenspring was recently selected from among 600 retirement communities as the 2018 Best Retirement Community in the Northern Region for consistently delivering the highest quality care and service.

“When you promise an exceptionally high standard and deliver above and beyond those expectations, word spreads,” says Greenspring Director of Sales David Taylor. “We are thrilled by the recognition from Virginia Living readers. We take our commitment to our residents seriously, which is recognized not only in honors such as this but in our high occupancy and strong resident satisfaction survey results. Accolades are nice, but what we care about most is the happiness of the people who live here.”

As a result of all these factors, this spring, a record number of people eager to call Greenspring home are scheduling visits and joining the priority list, the only way to guarantee a future home at Greenspring. It’s also the gateway to fun and informative events designed specifically for future community members.

Worry-free investing

Joining the priority list is easy and provides the peace of mind that comes with planning for the future. Members pay a fully refundable $1,000 deposit and a $150-per-person nonrefundable application fee.

Once this deposit is made, the date is noted as the member’s priority list date. Members are then encouraged to select a preferred floor plan that, once available, will be offered to them, with right of first refusal, based on their joining date.

Priority list members also enjoy exclusive access to Greenspring’s personal moving consultant, Lauren Askey. She meets with priority list members in their homes to provide information on the wide variety of resources available through Erickson Realty and Moving Services, including real estate agents, downsizing experts, cleanout services, packers, and movers.

Another significant benefit to priority list membership is access to Greenspring’s Live the Life suite. Members can stay on campus for a designated period of time and enjoy access to the same amenities and services as current residents. Guests are encouraged to select activities that interest them, attend a club meeting, join residents for dinner, see a show, or work out in the fitness center. It’s an unbeatable way to experience real life at Greenspring.

“During my time as a priority list member, I attended many informational open houses and met with staff members,” says Betty Ann Van Matre, who moved to Greenspring in August 2017. “Everyone I met encouraged me to book a stay in the Live the Life suite as a way of acclimating myself to life at the community. I’m so glad that I did. It solidified my decision. My stay definitely made me certain that I would be comfortable here. That is a great gift and provides such peace of mind.”

A place to call home

Last month, priority list members and guests experienced a taste of real life at Greenspring at the annual Home Expo. Guests at this year’s expo explored a variety of sought-after apartments homes, including the extra-large, one-bedroom with den Georgetown.

“The Georgetown is, without a doubt, one of our most popular homes,” says Taylor. “The extra-large living area and den are perfect for creating a unique living space, while removing the burdens of home upkeep and maintenance.”

“I absolutely love my apartment home, it’s just beautiful,” Catherine McKenna says of her Georgetown apartment home. “One of the greatest features is the extra-large living area. It’s five feet longer than many of the two-bedroom homes, making it, in my opinion, large enough for two people. The extra space allows me to comfortably fit my china cabinet. It’s really the
perfect living room.”

Next steps

With the spring home selling season in full swing and many visitors hoping to move to Greenspring before next winter, Taylor encourages anyone interested in a future at Greenspring to schedule a visit this summer.

“This is an exciting time in the life of our community, and we are eager to share that excitement,” he says. “There is never any pressure, just a great opportunity to discover why so many people wish to call Greenspring home.”
