Sandy Shelpuk is one of two sales counselors at Wind Crest, and two of her daughters also work in the community—Emily in finance and Niki as a concierge.

Due to the overwhelming demand for Wind Crest’s maintenance-free lifestyle, the Highlands Ranch, Colo., Erickson Living community welcomed an additional sales counselor, Sandy Shelpuk, to the team.

“We brought Sandy on as sales activity has skyrocketed at Wind Crest with the recent opening of our newest residence building, Prospect Crossing, and the announcement of two new residence buildings under construction,” says Sales Director Krista Wagner. “She is a perfect fit for this role.”

Shelpuk couldn’t agree more. In fact, she says it’s her “dream job.”

“I’ve always enjoyed sales, but to be able to make a difference in people’s lives and get to know people is such a blessing for me,” says Shelpuk, who started her career in computer software sales before raising and home schooling her five children while running a home business with her husband.

When she was ready to return to a traditional workplace, a friend suggested Wind Crest. Her first introduction to the community was working special events for the dining services department. She segued into sales, assisting in the sales office for two summers as Wind Crest continued to see demand rise and built its second neighborhood.

“Because we were growing so quickly and had such high demand, they eventually opened up a position for another sales counselor and hired me full time,” she says. “It’s the perfect fit.”

One on one

As sales counselor, Shelpuk meets with individuals and families interested in learning more about life at Wind Crest.

“I treat the visit as an opportunity to get to know them, to connect with them. I share a little bit about myself. From there, I give an overview of Wind Crest and Erickson Living. Then we tour some apartments that I think may be a good fit based on our conversation,” she says.

More than a tour

But a tour is so much more than a tour. It’s an opportunity to see vibrant living in action. She says, “I love walking through the community and seeing people who I helped move here, seeing their smiling faces, giving them big hugs, and welcoming them here. It’s one of my favorite things, and the individuals or families I’m touring can see the relationships we’ve built and know they’re not just a number. They’re a person we really care about.”

Shelpuk says she’s passionate about sharing the Wind Crest lifestyle with as many people as possible because she truly believes in it. “We have so many amenities here, it helps simplify your life. To me it makes sense,” she says. “You don’t have to worry about taking care of your home or being lonely. You have the opportunity to connect with people, which is such a huge part of life.”
