While Lantern Hill has a wealth of amenities and activities available on campus for its residents to enjoy, community members and potential residents can also attend excursions to area destinations as well.

Animal adventures

This summer, groups from Lantern Hill visited Turtle Back Zoo and Monmouth Park Racetrack.

Turtle Back Zoo, a 56-year-old zoo in Essex County, N.J., accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, American Humane Association, and the Zoological Association of America, gave the group of 11 an enriching experience about wildlife education and conservation.

They were able to see more than 30 species of animals, including sea turtles, giraffes, penguins, snow leopards, and red pandas. The aviary and butterfly tent were a big hit.

The group boarded the miniature zoo train at Turtle Back Junction to tour the beautiful South Mountain Reservoir.

“The train was a great way to cool down and enjoy the scenery,” says Wellness Coordinator Melissa Sullivan.

On June 15, another group of residents and priority list members departed from Lantern Hill for Monmouth Park, a horse track and Shore tradition since 1870, in Long Branch. The day trip provided excitement and fun for all those who attended.

Most anticipated event this fall

Perhaps one of Lantern Hill’s most anticipated events takes place right on campus, when its sixth residence building, Bell Pavilion, opens this October.

In preparation, the community will present a launch party on September 6 for those who have already reserved their home at Bell Pavilion and an expo on September 12, where priority list members will get to tour all floor plans, community spaces, and amenities.
