Lakeside Commons is the latest space to undergo renovation at Riderwood, the Erickson Living-developed community in Silver Spring, Md.

Riderwood opened nearly 20 years ago, back in 2000. With that longevity comes stability, rich history, and a proven track record. But, of course, there’s a certain appeal to freshly decorated spaces. That’s why Riderwood’s management team has made it a priority to periodically renovate common areas on campus.

In 2018, the Town Center Clubhouse lobby was updated with fresh and modern touches. The space has been redecorated in clean lines, cool grays, and soothing earth tones. And now, construction is underway on a renovation of the Lakeside Commons Clubhouse.

Architectural design firm Hord Coplan Macht, Inc., which handled the renovation of Town Center, is also spearheading the Lakeside Commons project. The space will be transformed with the addition of another restaurant, an expanded dining patio, and a new shopping market. The Encore Theatre will be updated with new upholstery, flooring, paint, and finishings. The existing computer room will be transformed into a multipurpose music room and classroom.

Blending new and original touches

A few of the original design elements have stood the test of time and will remain untouched. The fireplace won’t be changed and will be able to be enjoyed both by people gathering in the new lounge as well as those in the new restaurant. The skylight, which has also been one of Lakeside Commons’ best features, will also remain, providing ample natural light in the pub.

The Lakeside Commons renovation is on schedule to be completed by January 2020. The best part about renovations when you’re living at a community like Riderwood, as opposed to in your own house, is that you don’t have to be displaced while construction is in process. There are many other common areas on campus that community members can enjoy while they wait for the fresh, new look to be revealed at Lakeside Commons.
