When she's not helping people find their dream home, Charlestown Sales Associate Patti Goldberg (center) loves spending time with her grandkids and cousins.

You’ve heard the saying, “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” It’s a philosophy Charlestown Sales Associate Patti Goldberg subscribes to wholeheartedly as she helps free people from the burdens of home ownership and enjoy an active, worry-free lifestyle.

“I love my job! It is with a grateful heart that I come to work each day. It is like a gift from heaven, and I don’t take it for granted,” says Goldberg.

Goldberg joined the Charlestown sales team in 2012 as the community’s move-in coordinator and transitioned into her current role as a sales associate. Goldberg says she sees her role as an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.

“You can move anywhere and find a one or two-bedroom apartment, but it’s Charlestown’s people and values that really set us apart. There is an intangible quality and integrity when it comes to the values of Erickson Living, and Charlestown, in particular as the flagship community, that is just as important as the apartments themselves,” says Goldberg.

Team player

As sales associate, Goldberg works with the other members of Charlestown’s sales team to help individuals and couples interested in learning more about the Erickson Living lifestyle, as well as other aspects of the moving process like selecting an apartment, selling a house, downsizing, finding a real estate agent, and hiring a moving company.

“A former co-worker of mine tagged me as a utility player, and I think that description perfectly describes what I do every day,” says Goldberg. “Every member of our team is what we like to call cross-trained. That means that I can take a sales appointment or a financial appointment; take someone on an apartment tour or even speak at a luncheon if needed. I really enjoy the diversity of my job, as well as the great team that I work with.”

A self-described people-person, Goldberg’s outgoing personality has served her well in her role as a sales associate.

“It’s easy for me to really get immersed in people’s needs. My colleagues joke with me in the office. When we hold luncheon, they always let me go on the first tour because they know I like to talk, and I’ll be the last one back to the luncheon,” says Goldberg.

Born and raised in Howard County, Md., Goldberg often encounters people in her line of work whom she knew growing up.

“People will say, ‘I went to school with someone in your family, or I worked with so and so. Even my former high school principal joined the priority list,” says Goldberg.

She even lives in the same house where she grew up.

“My husband and I moved back there 20 years ago and put an addition on the house and updated it. He passed away unexpectedly last year, and now it’s just me, my mom, and our schnoodle (part schnauzer, part poodle) named Loki,” says Patti. “He also left me the incredible gift of three grown stepchildren and ten grandchildren, ages 5 to 18.”

Patti says coming to work surrounded by the staff and residents of Charlestown is a large part of what helped her through that difficult period.

“The support I received was unbelievable! Even now, people stop me and ask how I’m doing. Charlestown is a wonderful, loving, diverse environment. The people, by far, are the best part of my job.”

First step

Goldberg says whether you are sure a move to Charlestown is in your future or you are just curious and want to know more, the first step is to schedule a personal appointment.

“This will provide you with a general overview of Charlestown, our amenities, the continuing care that is available, and a personal tour of one of our neighborhoods and apartments. This is also a great time to ask any questions or discuss any particular concerns you have,” she says.

Goldberg says one day she could see herself living at an Erickson Living community like Charlestown.

“I love the water, so an Erickson community near the water would be the perfect combination!” she says.
