Although elegant table settings are standard, Devonshire’s staff bring out special touches during the holidays.

Throughout the year, community members at Devonshire, the premier Erickson Living-managed community at PGA National, enjoy five-star, world-class dining. With the holiday season here, the dining services team is hard at work preparing the traditional Thanksgiving buffet, Christmas and Hanukkah festivities, and the annual New Year’s Eve celebration.

“The holidays are a special time at our community,” says Executive Chef Joe Marinelli. “The dining services team begins creating menus months in advance. Our goal is to honor traditions while also treating our community members to something extra special.”

All are welcome

In advance of the festivities, each community member receives a special calendar detailing each of the holiday offerings, providing ample time to invite family and friends to join in on the celebrations.

“Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to join us for all of our holiday gatherings,” says Marty Bores, Devonshire’s manager of resident services.

“And for those unable to see family at the holidays, dining at Devonshire is like dining with family,” adds community member Artie Lynnworth. “We all enjoy sharing meals and good times together. The holidays are no exception. Every day feels like a holiday at Devonshire.”

Something for everyone

While community members spend quality time with friends and family, Marinelli and his team work tirelessly to ensure that the food is the star of the show. The traditional Thanksgiving buffet includes festive favorites—turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables, and decadent pies.

“It’s not uncommon for a community member to come to me with a treasured holiday recipe,” says Marinelli. “When appropriate, our team does our best to recreate these family recipes and include them with the meal.”

And before the last dish is washed and shoppers begin their Black Friday shopping, the dining services team is back at work preparing for their busiest month of the year. Pastry Chef Tom Lutz bakes thousands of cookies, hundreds of pies, and a large variety of specialty desserts, including bread pudding, crème brûlée, and sugar-free cheesecake mousse.

“At no other time of the year does baking hold the key to so many wonderful memories,” says Lutz. “Our team works diligently to create these special goodies for our community members.”

Like the community itself, Devonshire’s holiday celebrations honor the uniqueness of each individual. From the traditional tree trimming to the lighting of the menorah, each celebration includes treasured culinary treats from specialty cocktails and hors d’oeuvres to potato latkes and chocolate gelt.

“As with everything at Devonshire, the staff go above and beyond to make each experience memorable and special,” says Artie. “Each restaurant is decorated beautifully, and the servers dress for every occasion. It’s all a part of the spirit of Devonshire, sharing and caring with friends. It’s such a happy place to live.”
