Planning for the future, whether for retirement, college, or a dream vacation, is one of the top resolutions for the New Year. The priority list at Ashby Ponds, an Erickson Living-managed community in Ashburn, Va., offers the opportunity to make retirement planning resolutions a reality. It also delivers unbeatable peace of mind by providing a financially risk-free way to reserve a place in line at the popular community.

Because good news travels fast, last year, more people joined the Ashby Ponds priority list than at any other time since the community opened in 2008.

“We were on the Ashby Ponds priority list for two years before our move,” says community member Mary Alice Babka. “My husband Frank and I knew this was where we wanted to live eventually. Joining the priority list gave us real peace of mind. As members, we also enjoyed many advantages before our move. We were kept up to date on new construction and received invitations to members-only events where we met current community members and learned about their experiences living at Ashby Ponds.”

Simple and straightforward

Joining the Ashby Ponds priority list requires a fully refundable $1,000 deposit and a $150-per-person, nonrefundable application fee.

“The investment provides a sense of security regardless of whether you ultimately decide to move to Ashby Ponds,” says Mary Alice. “It’s a win-win situation.”

When prospective residents submit their deposit, that date is noted as their priority list date. Once their preferred floor plan becomes available, the sales team gives first right of refusal to priority list members based on their joining date.

There is no penalty should the preferred apartment home become available before a prospective resident is ready to move. It is simply offered to the next member on the list, and priority list status remains the same.

To its members, the Ashby Ponds priority list offers an unbeatable gift: the gift of time.

“My wife Ans and I joined the priority list the year I turned 70,” says Robert Olander.  “Our goal was to move before my eightieth birthday.  The time on the priority list provided us with an ongoing opportunity to compare the many retirement options in our area. During our exploration, we discovered that we wanted the many diverse amenities offered by Erickson Living-managed communities. When we were ready to move, we were at the top of the list for any apartment home we wanted.”

Creating long-lasting bonds

Priority list members also receive exclusive invitations to seminars and events designed specifically for their benefit. This past fall, priority list members enjoyed a sneak peek tour of the community’s newest residence building, Belmont Commons. Members also receive first notice of new construction, an advantage that cannot be overstated.

“In the past, entire residence buildings have sold out to members of the priority list before announcing to the general public,” says Director of Sales Holly Henderson.

“While on the priority list, we were invited to many events where we met lots of other future residents whom we’re friends with today,” says Mary Alice.

Friendships like these, forged during the time of exploration, are one of the biggest benefits of priority list membership.

“We enjoyed meeting current residents,” says Robert. “These opportunities further helped us make the most momentous decision of our lives. We found the camaraderie and friendship of fellow residents to be the most unexpected aspect of our move. Before moving, we concentrated on amenities, the size of the swimming pool, the auditorium, the number and variety of restaurants. [We didn’t realize] fellow residents would soon become more like family.”

Time to prepare

Another big benefit of joining the priority list is access to Erickson Realty and Moving Services and a team of experts whose number one priority is helping prepare homes for sale and finding the right real estate agents as well as coordinating with downsizing, packing, and moving experts.

“Joining the priority list is an incentive to begin downsizing and getting your house ready for sale,” says Mary Alice. “Ashby Ponds has resources to help you do all those things. It also gives you time to adjust from the life you had to the wonderful one that is waiting for you here.”

Priority list members are also encouraged to take advantage of the Live the Life suite, where they can live on campus for a designated period of time, enjoying access to the same amenities and services as those who live at Ashby Ponds.

“Our stay in the Live the Life suite gave us a sense of the resident culture,” says Karen Walborn, who moved with her husband Bill Rodier to Ashby Ponds from nearby Potomac Green. “Everyone we met couldn’t say enough good things about living here. The opportunity to stay and live like a resident was a wonderful experience.”

A new life is waiting

Henderson encourages anyone interested in learning more about the Ashby Ponds priority list to schedule a visit this winter. Guests enjoy the unique opportunity to witness real life on campus and ask their important questions.

“This is an exciting time in the life of our community, and we are eager to share that excitement,” she says.
