Residents Carole Pugsley, Rich McCartney, Pat McCartney, Donna Hackett, Sales Associate Neyam Manohar, and resident Karen Cox are in front of an overview of Fountain View, Tallgrass Creek’s residence building currently under construction.

The landscape of Tallgrass Creek’s beautiful 65-acre campus changes daily as Fountain View, the Erickson Living-managed community’s new residence building, takes shape. The five-story building is scheduled for a fall completion and features 132 new residences with 18 different designs that include eight brand-new floor plans.

The residences at Fountain View will have deluxe appliances and finishes, upgraded lighting and flooring, and optional under-building parking. Many homes will include a choice of patio, balcony, or screened porch.

With Fountain View on the rise, the Overland Park, Kans. community’s sales office is buzzing with requests for campus tours and reservation appointments. Sales Director Blake Marshall says Tallgrass Creek is at 99% occupancy and the residences at Fountain View are selling quickly.

“When people visit Tallgrass Creek and see for themselves how much there is to enjoy here, they reserve right away,” says Marshall.

Affordable, worry-free living

Marshall notes prospective residents are surprised when they compare the cost of maintaining a larger home versus the cost of living at Tallgrass Creek.

“Day-to-day expenses in a home mount up quickly,” says Marshall. “Our monthly service package covers expected and unexpected expenses that pop up and can heavily affect your pocketbook.”

Tallgrass Creek’s monthly service package covers most aspects of apartment home maintenance: professional lawn care, property taxes, heating and air-conditioning, at-your-door trash and recycling collection, multiple dining plans and options, most utilities, basic cable TV, regularly scheduled transportation, 24-hour security, and emergency response services.

Community member Barbara Hise says she can’t believe how much easier life is at Tallgrass Creek.

“The day I deleted phone numbers for my plumber, roofer, pest control, electrician, and yard service was a great day,” says Barbara.

Dining with a difference

About 60 visitors recently learned all about the maintenance-free lifestyle Fountain View offers as they experienced a taste of Tallgrass in the community’s sunny Blue Sky Restaurant.

Guests enjoyed bowls of hearty clam chowder followed by entrée choices of seafood Newburg or grilled KC strip steak. Each entrée was accompanied by roasted rosemary potatoes, broiled Parmesan tomatoes, and apple tartlets topped with vanilla bean ice cream.

One of many things that differentiates Tallgrass Creek is food preparation in the community’s gleaming, restaurant-grade kitchen. Community members enjoy more than 20 made-to-order entrée choices each evening along with multiple sides and desserts.

“In many communities, food is prepared in large batches or even brought in and kept warm,” says Marshall. “Here, our chefs cook meals to order, which means it’s fresher, hotter, and a more personal dining experience.”

Marshall says guests at sales events and luncheons frequently ask if community members dine “this well” all the time.

“The answer is ‘yes’,” says resident Karen Cox. “I would be shocked if any other retirement community has the number of daily fresh food choices and the number of places to dine that we do. It’s a big plus.”

The dining staff also works with residents to plan, prepare, and cater meals for their personal guests in the private dining room. As one resident says “entertaining friends and family is much easier at Tallgrass Creek because all you do is show up.”

Something for everyone

The addition of Fountain View represents a new chapter for Tallgrass Creek, one of 20 communities developed and managed by Erickson Living, who’s headquarters are located in Baltimore, Md.

“It’s always exciting to announce a new residence building,” says Marshall. “But even more so now because Fountain View is the beginning of an entire new neighborhood with its own unique amenities.”

Fountain View residents will enjoy their own restaurants, fitness center, yoga studio, arts studio, library, game room, and more. A climate-controlled walkway connects Fountain View to the existing neighborhood’s restaurants, on-site medical center, and many other amenities.

Future community members will enjoy all the social, educational, and fitness activities that are available at Tallgrass Creek’s current neighborhood. With more than 70 resident-driven clubs, along with the many activities Tallgrass Creek’s executive team hosts, there is something for everyone.

“You practically need a social secretary to keep track of it all,” laughs Jan Meyer, who moved to Tallgrass Creek with her husband Gene about 18 months ago.

Speaking of activity, Tallgrass Creek is across the street from Overland Park’s bustling 135th Street corridor with its myriad of upscale restaurants, shopping, museums, and entertainment.

“As the saying goes: location, location, location,” says Marshall. “Tallgrass Creek is right in the middle of everything, which is one more reason residents and staff love this community.”

Keeping it simple

With the opening of Fountain View months away, future residents have plenty of time to plan their move. Many are working with Personal Moving Consultant Nancy Worthington to help organize and streamline their personal moving process.

Worthington’s sound advice, reassuring support, and 25 years of experience working in senior living, have helped countless Tallgrass Creek residents simplify their moves to the active community.

“It all starts with a home visit where together, we create a step-by-step moving plan that’s unique to your needs and situation,” says Worthington.

During the visit, Worthington will share information about local Erickson Living-preferred moving-related businesses that have simplified the moves of more than 80% of all Tallgrass Creek residents.

These businesses all qualify for the Erickson Moving and Realty Services, which offers complimentary coordination of moving needs such as downsizing, packing, moving, and selection of real estate professionals.

Conk and Bonnie Buckley are among many who sing the praises of Erickson Living’s moving-related business partners.

“We call them Team Tallgrass,” says Conk. “They work together beautifully and really know how to make a move much easier.”
