Wind Crest Resident Jean Rene Champion Publishes His Memoirs; WWII Veteran Celebrated VE Day by Drinking Hitler's Champagne

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (January 28, 2014) - Wind Crest retirement community resident Jean Rene Champion was a tank commander in the Free French Army during WWII who did something unusual on May 8, 1945 when Allied forces formally accepted the surrender of Nazi Germany. He celebrated VE Day by going to Hitler's mountain home in Berchtesgaden and drinking Hitler's champagne.  "It was unusually delicious," he said. Wind Crest Treasure Chest Donated $13,675 to Programs and Charities in 2013

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (January 6, 2014) - Wind Crest retirement community's Treasure Chest donated $13,675 to programs and charities last year. The Treasure Chest, which is staffed by resident volunteers, was established to create a system where residents or staff may give their gently used items for resale to other residents and Wind Crest employees and support worthy causes in the process. Wind Crest Residents Donate $130,000 to Thank Their Hourly Staff

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (December 16, 2013) --  Residents of Wind Crest  retirement community this week donated $130,000 to their campus' Staff Appreciation Fund to show their appreciation to their hourly staff for jobs well done in 2013.  The money benefitted 295  hourly staff members from all departments, including Dining Services, General Services and Health Services. Wind Crest Residents Donate $4,050 to Flood Relief Fund in First Two Days of Weeklong Drive

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (September 23, 2013) - A weeklong Flood Relief fundraising drive initiated by Wind Crest retirement community residents has resulted in $4,050 being donated in its first two days.  Wind Crest staff are joining residents in this effort to raise money to help victims of the Northern Colorado floods. The drive lasts until Sunday, September 29, with donations being forwarded to the Salvation Army through a tax exempt account.

Artists Find a Shared Creative Haven at Wind Crest

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (August 30, 2013) - More than 100 artists are finding a shared creative haven at Wind Crest, where their work is always welcome. A six member Resident Artwork Display Committee led by John Lillie, Dorothy Talbott and Anita Jones helps to showcase the artists' work in Wind Crest's hallways.  Rotating exhibits change every two months.  The art ranges from cross-stitch embroidery to bas relief three-dimensional carvings in wood. Watercolors, oils and acrylics complete the creative tapestry, along with photography.
