HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (April 12, 12016) -- Hilary Henz knows a thing or two about menu planning. He and his wife Barbara owned and operated a continental restaurant specializing in Swiss cuisine, Chalet Lucerne in Winter Park, CO, for 21 years.

Since moving to Wind Crest, Hilary has lent his experience as a member of the five-member menu planning committee, a relatively new effort by dining services to enhance the dining experience for the community’s residents.

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (March 1, 2016) -- Charitable giving in the United States hit a record high in 2014, according to the National Philanthropic Trust. Americans gave $358.38 billion that year—a 7.1% increase over 2013. Additionally, 2014 marked the fifth year in a row that giving increased.

It’s no surprise, then, that Wind Crest, the Erickson Living community in Highlands Ranch, CO., recently hired a philanthropy coordinator to support its very generous residents and staff.

Wind Crest Women's Club's Community Outreach is Vast

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (February 23, 20126) -- The Wind Crest retirement community Women's Club knitted and donated 312 hats last year for young cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at The Children’s Hospital.

The club also knitted hats for newborns at Littleton Adventist Hospital and donated knitted scarves to the Denver Rescue Mission.

The vast majority of knitting, crocheting, sewing, and other craft projects are done by club members on their own time...

Wind Crest Residents/Staff Spell "Omaha," Cheer Broncos Onto Super Bowl Victory

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (February 4, 2016) -- Residents and staff of Wind Crest retirement community today turned their Rocky Mountains locale into a virtual sea of orange as they cheered their beloved Denver Broncos onto a Super Bowl victory over the Carolina Panthers.

They held large letters at a campus pep rally that spelled "Omaha" to thank Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and his teammates for an outstanding championship season.

They plan to hold a post-Super Bowl celebration....

Jack Stevens' Bas Relief of Running Horses is Alluring at Wind Crest

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (January 12, 2016) – Wind Crest resident Jack Stevens’ interest in woodcarving has led him down many paths including carving-in-the-round, whittling, marquetry, inlay, and bas relief now on exhibit at the retirement community nestled against the Rocky Mountains.

His running horse relief was inspired by an old photo in a National Geographic magazine of horses running in the ocean surf in France. It is displayed in alluring fashion, where residents, staff and visitors marvel at its intricacy.

Wind Crest Residents Donate $177,000 to Thank Their Hourly Staff

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO -- Residents of Wind Crest retirement community in Highlands Ranch, CO, donated $177,000 to their campus’ Staff Appreciation Fund to show their appreciation to their hourly staff for jobs well done in 2015.

The money benefitted 389 hourly staff members from all departments, including Dining Services, General Services and Health Services. This fundraising drive among residents is done annually during the holiday season.

Wind Crest, which has more than 1,150 residents, offers extensive wellness and prevention programs, balance assessment and fall prevention programs, and Fitness and Aquatics Center....

Wind Crest Opens New Arts and Enrichment Center

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (December 2, 2015) -- Wind Crest retirement community’s new 230-seat arts and enrichment center hosted its grand opening performance, world-class father-son piano duo Simon and Son, on November 16. Peter and Saling Simon treated audience members to a heart-warming evening of popular and classical music.

“The opening performance was a hit,” says Community Resources Manager Craig Ellsworth, who has been anticipating this new venue for some time.

Wind Crest Takes First Place in Walk Around the World Fitness Challenge

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO – Wind Crest retirement community residents, staff, family, and friends took First Place in a Walk Around the World fitness challenge sponsored by Erickson Living among 17 communities in 10 states.

Wind Crest boasted 288 participants who walked a total of 26,401 miles throughout the month of September and had representation in 17 different countries and/or states. A celebration filled with medals, healthy refreshments, raffles, and fun capped off the event.

WWII POWs Reconnect at Wind Crest on Veterans Day

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (November 9, 2015) – Veterans Day has special meaning for two former World War II POWS and current neighbors at Wind Crest retirement community.

Robert McAdam, a retired U.S. Army Air Corps Major, and Sherwin Desens, a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, were both prisoners – at the same time -- in Stalag Luft I near Barth, Germany, during the war. They reconnected at Wind Crest 70 years later.

McAdam said Desens found out that he was a former POW. The two met, shared their stories and discovered they were together as prisoners in Stalag...
