Windsor Run’s Top Ten Highlights

December 3, 2020

Matthews, North Carolina--While not a typical year, 2020 will be one for the record books. What will community members at Windsor Run, an Erickson Living-managed community, remember most? Perhaps as a challenging year made easier by a dedicated team who met their needs while keeping them safe and secure amidst a pandemic.

1. Safety first: From the onset of the pandemic, Windsor Run acted swiftly, staying ahead of guidelines issued by the CDC as well as state and local health departments. Throughout 2020, Windsor placed its highest priority on providing an effective response to COVID-19, taking every precautionary measure necessary to protect the safety and well-being of residents and staff. Based on this effective response, the community has been able to safely reopen, in phases, and in alignment with CDC, state, and local infection prevention protocols.

2. Extra support: With all pressing needs met right on campus, Windsor Run community members were able to safely remain in their homes throughout the state's stay-at-home order in the spring. Windsor Run, like all Erickson Living-managed communities, launched a concierge program to facilitate the doorstep delivery of newspapers, packages, and other important items by staff members. As an added enhancement to the concierge program, Windsor Run implemented an essential items delivery service, providing residents the opportunity to request travel-size/single-serve essential items, including soap, laundry detergent, coffee, and tea from the front desk. These items were provided free of charge, within 48 hours. In addition, residents continued to enjoy access to campus-based telemedicine services as well as on-site medical facilities to accommodate in-person consultations.

3. Well-fed: One of the first measures initiated in response to COVID-19 was the in-home dining program. Rather than offering meals at one of Windsor Run's campus restaurants, staff members personally delivered all meals to residents in their homes. Windsor Run's director of dining services Bill Bremer provided frequent updates regarding the food selection process and delivery. He, along with executive chef Patrick Yeager, routinely appeared on WR-TV explaining the program and participating in question and answer sessions with residents.

4. Staying connected: In 2020, Windsor Run staff took measures to ensure that residents stayed engaged with family and friends while minimizing exposure to the virus through the use of FaceTime, Skype, and Zoom. All Windsor Run departments worked carefully to provide information, and in many cases, entertainment options to community members. WR-TV premiered, bringing with it campus-wide programming, including exercise classes, virtual walking tours, and concerts. The station also aired special presentations in honor of Pet Month; Security Appreciation Week; Memorial Day; National Donut Day; National Juggling Day; and the Windsor Run Pride Parade in honor of Pride Week. In recognition of Windsor Run's graduating high school senior employees, WR-TV aired a week-long special showcasing the student's important contributions to the community.

5. Beech Hollow opened in May: Not missing a step, Beech Hollow, the community's newest independent living residential building, opened, as planned, in May. Welcoming 150 new residents, the apartment homes feature popular amenities such as airy layouts and beautiful finishes; modernized kitchens with granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances; full-sized, side-by-side washers and dryers; walk-in closets; and custom flooring and light fixtures.

6. Record number of priority list members: One of the many unexpected results of the recent COVID-19 crisis was a renewed look at priorities and a desire to make plans for the future. In 2020, people, many of whom planned a move to Windsor Run at a future date, recognized the importance of the vast safety net available to community members. This translated in an increased demand for the Windsor Run lifestyle and a record number of priority list members

7. Hot real estate market: Throughout the year, the Charlotte area real estate market remained hot. Considered essential employees, real estate agents throughout North Carolina were allowed to continue working and serving their clients throughout the pandemic. With the help of Erickson Realty and Moving Services partners, Windsor Run helped a number of people move to in 2020, often using online technology to aid in their ability to help their clients stage their home for sale, downsize, and create a packing/moving plan.

8. Construction progressed: Throughout 2020, construction continued as planned on the community's continuing care community, Piedmont Outlook, honoring the commitment to provide residents with all levels of care. Although most will never need these services, the new community will provide assisted living, memory care, post-acute rehabilitation, and nursing care services, right on the Windsor Run campus. In addition, construction continued on the newest residential building, White Oak Terrace. Both additions are scheduled to open, on time, next year.

9. Celebrating diversity: In an effort to recognize the uniqueness of all community members, the Windsor Run Diversity and Inclusion committee hosted a special celebration for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. Later in the year, with physical distancing measures in place, the committee held a Pride parade and a parade in recognition of the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote. The committee also airs a monthly diversity recognition program to keep community members connected and informed.

10. Second anniversary and above industry average occupancy: In May, Windsor Run celebrated its second anniversary with above industry average occupancy, due in large part to the strong COVID-19 responses, unmatched financial strength, unbeatable amenities and services, and access to onsite medical care.
