Cedar Crest's One-Bedroom Apartment Homes Offer Affordability and Access to Amenities

For many retirees, moving to a continuing care retirement community like Cedar Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Pompton Plains, N.J., means recreating former living spaces in a new location.

But for some Cedar Crest residents, the value, affordability, and ease of a one-bedroom apartment home offer a chance to start fresh and match their new active lifestyle.

Diane Rieger is one of them. The Dover--a one-bedroom, one-bath floor plan with a balcony--was the perfect space to start her next exciting chapter.

"The windows in the bedroom and living room are so large," she says. "When I went onto the balcony, I saw mountains and water--that's how I knew this one was for me!"

New beginnings

Diane, a former Cape Cod, Mass., resident, relocated to New Jersey in 2018 for her husband's health care and to be closer to their children.

When her husband passed away in 2020, Diane wasn't sure what her future held.

"My daughter knew about Cedar Crest," says Diane. "All the activities looked marvelous!"

She continues, "And when I saw the apartment home for the first time, I was delighted. It was bright and airy. After coming in from the balcony, I cried because I was so happy."

After learning about the Erickson Realty and Moving Services program, Diane reached out to Cedar Crest's planning and moving consultant, who ensured that her move to the community was a smooth experience.

"This support, plus the friendliness and warmth of the staff and residents, made a big difference," notes Diane.

Modern and stylish

Now that she's settled in her dream apartment home, Diane is enjoying all the perks that come along with her updated living space.

"All our one-bedroom apartment homes are a great value," says Sales Director Ray Guarino. "They provide ample living space and unbeatable access to activities and top-notch amenities--all of which are just a short, indoor stroll away via climate-controlled walkways."

Cedar Crest's one-bedroom apartment homes--ranging from 700 to more than 850 square feet--feature open living and dining areas, large bedrooms, walk-in closets, and linen storage.

Their stylish, up-to-date kitchens boast sleek, modern appliances with an optional breakfast bar. Bathrooms are designed for comfort and safety, and every unit has a washer and dryer.

Reimagine your space

Agnes and Jim Hinnigan also find their one-bedroom Cedar Crest apartment home--a Brighton floor plan model--to be spacious and comfortable, meeting all their needs.

And, like Diane, they adore their views of the Ramapo Mountains and Wanaque Reservoir.

"We have a full bay window, almost ceiling-to-floor glass, with a encompassing view," Agnes says. "It's beautiful in every season. And the sunrises are magnificent!"

Value and affordability also topped the Hinnigans' list: Cedar Crest's one-bedroom prices are competitive with senior apartments and condos in the local housing market.

"The price was right!" says Agnes, who advises anyone moving to Cedar Crest to think about what matters most to them--both in terms of belongings and lifestyle.

"It's an opportunity to start a new lifestyle, to refresh," she explains. "Get rid of the old. Take a step back and say, 'Let's do a clean sweep.' Bring only what you need. And with the money that you save on your one-bedroom, use some of it to buy yourself updated furniture."

'Very happy here'

"Like Diane and Agnes, many Cedar Crest residents adopt an active, social lifestyle once they settle in. Many residents are surprised at how little time they spend in their apartment homes--there is so much to do on and around campus," explains Guarino.

Diane participates in the retired educators' group she cofounded and serves on the community's literary magazine. She also sings, acts, and exercises her green thumb. Agnes belongs to mah-jongg and Scrabble groups, works on Cedar Crest's Mountain Matters newsletter, and is an avid walker.

"Once prospective residents see all the activities available, they realize they don't have to have a lot of space or bring all the things they had in their larger houses," he adds.

Diane, approaching her fourth anniversary as a resident at Cedar Crest, couldn't be happier with her new living space and her lifestyle.

"I love it!" she says. "When I wake up in the morning, I look out and see the mist over the water--it's just like paradise. I'm very happy here!"
