Fox Run Residents Look Forward to a New Year of Worry-Free Living

December 21, 2023
Residents of Fox Run, the Erickson Senior Living community in Novi, Michigan, share their reasons for optimism in 2024.

For Dave Merrion, 2024 is going to be all about fitness and fun.

"I'm looking forward to the construction of the second bocce court and pickleball courts with seating and lighting," says Dave, who organizes the spirited bocce teams at Fox Run, an Erickson Senior Living community in Novi, Mich.

For neighbor Mary Lee Gwizdala, the start of a new year means the start of new friendships.

"I sing with In Sync, a small ensemble that performs a capella, and Fox Run's Mixed Chorus. I sing at mass on Tuesdays too," says Mary Lee, a talented vocalist who loves meeting residents who share her love for music. "I also play bridge and card games here."

With maintenance-free apartment homes that create more time for pursuing interests and making friends, it's no wonder why residents like Dave and Mary Lee are going to be booked and busy in 2024!

Vibrant social life

When Dave and his wife Jean were researching retirement communities in the area, they had one requirement: socialization.

"Three years prior to our research, Jean was diagnosed with Alzheimer's," explains Dave. "We quickly realized that increased engagement and interaction with others really helped her condition."

When they learned about Fox Run's vibrant culture, the couple knew it was the right place for them. Soon after settling into their apartment home in 2020, the couple immersed themselves in community life.

"Fox Run provided the socialization she needed until she passed away in August 2023. Going to dinner every night and sitting with new people was great. We made many friends," says Dave, who is thankful for the support system he developed in the process.

Now, with a new bocce court on the way and the support of newfound friends, Dave has everything he needs to make the most of 2024--and to keep up the friendly competition.

More on the horizon

"We recognize that our amenities make a difference in residents' lives," says Angelo Nardoni, Fox Run's associate executive director. "That's why, for us, 2024 is all about growth and opportunity."

By investing over $500 million in upgrades and renovations to its existing communities across the country, Erickson Senior Living will continue to provide thousands of seniors with the amenities and services they need to enjoy a fulfilling retirement.

"In the Belmont Clubhouse, one restaurant has been divided into two dining venues, which are smaller and more intimate," explains Nardoni. "Now, we have five restaurants, each with a unique atmosphere and menu. The community's new 'After Dark' activities will take place in the Midtown dining room."

He continues, "Outdoors, residents are anticipating the reimagined dog park, which is slated to open this spring. Lastly, a new meditation space is being created so residents and staff members will have a place to reflect and recharge."

Worry-free living

Like Dave, Mary Lee was drawn to the community's social life.

"Fox Run has the most welcoming atmosphere. So friendly, so upbeat. That was very important to me," says Mary Lee, who was also impressed by Fox Run's maintenance-free lifestyle. "I was living in a large house in Orchard Lake Village, Mich., by myself after my husband passed. I felt that the upkeep was becoming overwhelming."

Conducting her due diligence, she visited several other retirement communities in the area, but nothing topped Fox Run.

"I found an apartment home I liked, recruited staff to help me design my living space, and moved in," recalls Mary Lee, who was happily humming throughout the process.

'Peace of mind'

For many residents, Fox Run's connection to Erickson Senior Living's financial strength, expertise, and vibrant culture enhance their positive outlook on the new year. That experience includes over 40 years of operational excellence, which relies on the support of thousands of team members nationwide.

"When I visited Fox Run, the sales team was very knowledgeable," explains Mary Lee, "and they were helpful throughout my move to the community."

Dave agrees. "Fox Run's 1,300-plus residents and 800 employees are all very positive and helpful, and our connection to Erickson Senior Living provides peace of mind and a sense of financial stability."

Nardoni is gratified to hear that residents like Dave and Mary Lee are excited about the new year ahead in their forever home.

"We strive to provide only the best services," he notes. "We're here to help meet the demand for active, engaging senior living!"
