New residents motivated by hot real estate market, maintenance-free lifestyle and more
Novi, Mich. – September 3, 2020 – When Judy Mattingly moved to Fox Run, a continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living, earlier this year, she had no idea what 2020 would bring. But like the other 1,300 residents who live at Fox Run, Judy takes great comfort in the secure lifestyle the community provides, in good times and through life's challenges, including the coronavirus pandemic.
Mattingly, a retired teacher, previously lived in a condo in Westland, Michigan, and says that her move to Fox Run came at just the right time.
"I am so thankful to be here through this because I feel so safe," she says.
In addition to feeling safe and secure, Judy says she appreciates the convenience of life on campus. She enjoys Fox Run's delicious dining program, with lots of options from snacks to meals, including everything from barbeque ribs to lobster quiche. She says the dining services staff go the extra mile to bring smiles to residents' faces.
"I loved the little treats they brought," Judy says. "One day they dropped off Boston Coolers and another day it was champagne and hors d'ouerves."
At Fox Run, Judy has a spacious two-bedroom apartment home and has set up her spare room as an office and sewing room. She has been spending some of her extra time at home reading and quilting, so this room has been getting a lot of use.
Her large living room features a bay window overlooking a wooded area, where she can see wildlife like ducks, rabbits, and deer. During the warm summer months, Judy has been enjoying taking long walks around Fox Run's picturesque 108-acre campus.
"I walk for a good hour every morning," she says. "It's beautiful here."
A sellers' market
Judy is not the only one to make the move to Fox Run this year. Allison Murphy, Sales Director at Fox Run, says that thanks to the "hot, hot, hot Michigan housing market," her team is seeing increased interest among prospective residents while they continue to welcome new residents to the community.
"We have had so many folks get multiple offers, and above asking price!" says Murphy.
The strong sellers' market makes it an ideal time to finally give up all the work and worry of expensive house upkeep, yard work and surprise repairs. At Fox Run, the full-time maintenance team lifts those burdens so residents can relax and enjoy their hard-earned retirement.
In fact, the maintenance-free lifestyle at Fox Run includes all standard repairs and replacements inside and outside apartment homes, regular upkeep of all community buildings and landscaping, seasonal maintenance, and more.
'Lots of fun things to do'
With fewer chores, many Fox Run residents find they finally have the time to enjoy their favorite activities again, or cultivate new hobbies and skills.
Jon Blum, a former dermatologist who moved to Fox Run last year, has discovered a newfound passion for television, and regularly volunteers in Fox Run's on-campus TV studio. Working with Fox Run staff and other resident volunteers, Jon helps to produce a wide variety of exciting programming for the community's in-house TV channel, from talk shows to fitness classes and worship services, along with cultural and educational programs. In addition to volunteering in-studio, Jon is an avid Fox Run TV watcher and says it enhances his experience on campus by keeping him informed, entertained, and connected.
"I never imagined that I would experience such huge benefits from watching TV," he says. "Not only is the information provided incredibly valuable, but the programs are great fun. I moved here to have lots of fun things to do, and Fox Run has certainly delivered."
There is plenty more fun to come, as Jon is also in the process of starting the community's first-ever Astronomy Club.
