Linden Ponds to Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Abraham Lincoln

February 10, 2012

Hingham, MA --  Linden Ponds will celebrate the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln with a full week of activities running through Presidents Day and starting with a kickoff event on Monday, February 13 at 1:45 pm in Derby Clubhouse.
"Lincoln has some heritage that follows back to Hingham and this event will highlight those connections,"  said Joe McStowe, Community Services Manager, Linden Ponds.  "The displays will show much of the history, life and legacy of Lincoln and have been prepared by many of our resident groups."
On display will be a statue of Abraham Lincoln which stands almost 12' high and is a model of the statue designed by Massachusetts artist Daniel Chester French for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC.  It is one half the size of the statue in Washington.
People who live at Linden Ponds will also share artifacts representing some of their own connections to Abraham Lincoln including a letters written during the civil war,  and photos of several residents' Great Grandfathers in their Union Army uniforms, and much more.
"Many people from Town of Hingham  including Selectman, town officials, historians and educators will be in attendance for the kick off ceremony," said McStowe.  "So many people who live and work here put a lot of time and effort into this week long celebration that everyone is very excited for the opening ceremony."
