Community Updates Enhance Life at Oak Crest

Oak Crest, the Erickson Senior Living community in Parkville, Md., continually invests in refreshing and growing its amenities and programs to ensure the highest quality of life for current and future residents.

Two recent examples include a makeover of Crestview Station Clubhouse and the addition of a new home layout created by merging two apartment homes into one, which offers extra-large living spaces.

Clubhouse enhancements

Crestview Station's upgrades came to fruition after years of planning and were informed by Oak Crest residents' ideas and feedback. The result is new, industry-leading spaces, amenities, and services.

Renovations include a new reception lobby, media lounge, group fitness space, upgraded dental suite, games room, creative arts studio, on-site hair salon, and enhanced internet access.

The new bar and lounge area lead to the Oak Room, a full-service dining venue, and the Acorn Pub was expanded to include a patio area for al fresco dining.

Oak Crest resident Kathy Cimino loves the changes, which are as beautiful as they are functional.

"The clubhouse is gorgeous! I think they did a phenomenal job," says Kathy. "They have done an excellent job with acoustics and lighting. There are plenty of areas for people to gather, play poker and billiards, or sit and chat with friends by the fireplace."

Community resources manager Dana Huntington-Smith agrees. "The renovations to Crestview Station utilize the space more efficiently. We now have specialized spaces where residents can gather to watch TV or work on a puzzle. For example, a group can chat in one area and another group can play games or shuffleboard--all while waiting to go to dinner. It has really helped create a more social feeling here."

Todd Sullivan, Oak Crest's associate executive director, is gratified--but not surprised--that residents are having such a positive response to the community's updates.

"Our architects presented their vision for the space to residents, who offered feedback that was incorporated into the plan," Sullivan explains. "Our goal is to meet the needs and wants of current residents as well as those who choose to join our community in the future."

Now, residents have an expanded array of amenities, activities, and social opportunities right outside their front doors--all of which are accessible via indoor, climate-controlled walkways.

"We want our clubhouses to be a place where everyone--residents, guests, and families--feel welcome to enjoy the vibrant lifestyle that Oak Crest has to offer," says sales manager Drew Montgomery. "Our ongoing commitment to reimagining shared spaces is an important reason why many people choose Oak Crest as their home."

Refreshed living spaces

In addition to campus enhancements, Oak Crest continues to combine select one-bedroom and studio apartment homes to create expanded floor plans in response to the demand for larger apartment homes. These thoughtfully-designed floor plans have also been completely renovated, adding features like walk-in closets, second full baths, and expanded living rooms.

Residents like Kathy, who moved from a 4,000-square-foot house in Lewes, Del., appreciate the new, larger apartment homes for their space and versatility.

"I have about 1,500 square feet now, and it's plenty of space. I love it! I can clean my apartment home in about an hour; whereas before, it took me an hour just to do my kitchen--and an entire day to clean the whole house," says Kathy.

Lots to do

Aside from having plenty of space, Kathy enjoys the maintenance-free aspect of her apartment home and the convenience of having so many amenities and social opportunities nearby.

The expansive, 87-acre campus offers easy access an on-site medical center, fitness center, indoor swimming pool, eight restaurants, a TV studio, woodshop, salon, and bank.

"I think people are starting to catch onto the idea that this is a place you want to move to while you are young," says Kathy. "There is so much to take advantage of here. You meet so many nice people, and you don't have to worry about home maintenance."

Thanks to the convenient and predictable monthly service package, which covers everything from appliance repairs and utilities to a meal plan at on-site restaurants, Kathy's been able to make the most of her retirement.
