On September 26, 1964, Gilligan’s Island, a television show following the comedic adventures of seven shipwrecked castaways, premiered on CBS. For three years and 98 episodes, American audiences laughed heartily as the Skipper, Gilligan, Mary Ann, Ginger, the Professor, and Mr. and Mrs. Howell tried, but ultimately failed, to escape their plight.
