TINTON FALLS, NJ - Challenge accepted! This past Friday, members of the Seabrook Executive Team took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and some residents helped them get their feet wet... and the rest of them as well. See exciting YouTube video here: http://tiny.cc/ocj0kx.
Last week, the Brooksby Village Retirement Community in Peabody, MA, another community developed and managed by Erickson Living, challenged the Seabrook leadership to become involved. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is sweeping the nation via social media as it raises awareness funding for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
Another one of Erickson Living's communities in Maryland, Charlestown, started this movement last week by challenging all continuing care retirement communities to take the icy-cold challenge.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge began in Massachusetts with former Boston College baseball player Pete Frates, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2012. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness, loss of the use of arms and legs and difficulty speaking, breathing and swallowing.
Seabrook will also be donating $100 to the ALS Fund.
"This was a very fun event for our team to engage in," said Seabrook Executive Director Art Sparks. "With that being said, we must all not lose site about how serious a disease this is, and how with continued support from people throughout the world, research may one day hopefully eliminate this crippling illness."
About Seabrook: Seabrook is one of 17 continuing care retirement communities managed by Erickson Living. The scenic 98 acre campus is located in Tinton Falls, New Jersey and is home to more than 1,400 residents. Seabrook is the perfect greater Monmouth and Ocean County retirement destination offering a true sense of community, convenience beyond compare and a sensible financial structure.
